A Fenty administration will sustain the progress forged during the last nine years of balanced budgets the city has enjoyed. As Mayor, I will continue to practice fiscal responsibility by submitting well-conceived,
fair and balanced budgets that address the needs of our citizens. Never again must our city be witness to unbalanced books, agencies in receivership and a congressionally installed federal control board. I will never submit and I will never sign an unbalanced budget.
A Fenty Administration will:
• Sustain and continue to improve our bond ratings. Our relationship with Wall Street is critical to our city's continued fiscal health. Strong, responsible fiscal management allows the District to borrow money at a lower rate, enabling us to finance much needed infrastructure improvements.

Recognize that when the city borrows for one project, it impacts borrowing on other projects. My administration will carefully examine projects that require public financing and only our highest priorities will be supported with taxpayer dollars.

Restrain the growth of government. District agencies must become more efficient so that taxpayer dollars can be focused on top priorities.
My administration will implement a Capital Accountability System to
root out waste and discover efficiencies, saving taxpayers millions

Adrian Fenty has:
•
Cast a key swing vote to put the brakes on unsustainable and unjustified budget growth in 2005.
•
As Chair of the Committee on Human Services Adrian led the Council in disapproving the Mayor's request to use $4 million in tax-payer dollars to cover up for poor management and a failure to secure Federal funding.
•
Cast the key swing vote to reduce property taxes and limit the growth of government.
