A Clean Environment
A Fenty administration will support the creation and implementation of a Department of the Environment. The air we breathe, our rivers and our green space are threatened from carbon monoxide, toxic run-off and poor government stewardship in managing and enforcing environmental laws. People in the District suffer from high rates of asthma and other illness due to the pollution and toxic substances in our environment.

A Fenty Administration will:
• Purchase alternative fuel vehicles that run cleaner and have the Department of Transportation look at additional options to improve mobility and reduce traffic to help improve our air quality.
• Work with environmental organizations and experts as we look to better manage hazardous and toxic waste disposal and speed remediation efforts in the District.
Our environmental efforts must be citywide. Many of our neighborhoods which have suffered from severe neglect also suffer from extensive pollution. A Fenty administration will enhance the work of the Clean City Coordinator to ensure our neighborhoods are clean and safe. We will focus on rodent abatement, graffiti removal and litter.
A Fenty administration will also support awareness and education initiatives that teach people on how to preserve and protect their
