A Fenty administration will work to retain and expand businesses and industry in the District. My administration will encourage entrepreneurship through programs that will help citizens create small and mid-sized businesses in neighborhoods that have not yet experienced the benefits of the revitalization which many communities have witnessed in the last decade.

Adrian Fenty's Vision for Economic Development
A Fenty Administration will:
• Keep the city's positive economic momentum moving forward. The District of Columbia business community and current administration have begun to restore and develop DC's downtown. A Fenty Administration will continue this economic renaissance by working closely with all stakeholders to make certain that appropriate mixed use development happens at the Old Convention Center site, the Anacostia waterfront and other key locations.
• Cut the red tape – time is money. A Fenty Administration will shake up the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs and other agencies, including the
Office of Local Business Development, and Office of Permits, to cut the red tape and to make DC more business-friendly. This
shake-up will produce a more efficient DCRA – starting with the elimination of any department or personnel that has demonstrated an anti-business and/or anti-consumer attitude. Under my guidance, DCRA will become an office that retains and attracts new businesses to the city by better addressing their needs in regards
to opening, owning, and operating a business in the District of Columbia. A one-stop service center for business will be the reality – not a slogan – in a Fenty Administration.
• Work with all communities to bring the same economic engine that has built downtown to all neighborhoods as we spur appropriate and community friendly development in every Ward of the District. Businesses are looking to expand, and neighborhoods are crying out for the type of attention and investment downtown has received. We need to create jobs were people live and we need to prepare our people to work.
Adrian Fenty has:
• Worked to bring long overdue community oriented development to neighborhoods throughout Ward 4.
• Shepherded the first new housing in decades along Georgia Avenue. The new Petworth Metro development will provide 140 units of housing with an affordable housing component and underground parking.
• Worked to open new sit-down restaurants in Ward 4 which include: Domku Café, Colorado Kitchen, and Sweet Mango Café.
•
Pushed NCRC to create opportunities for development out of vacant and abandoned parcels block by block along Georgia Avenue.
